This section after reconstruction in 1381 with the aim of disseminating information correctly and consistently established, including the activities of this sector to collect and provide the scientific bases Engineering Online and the world as referring to the URL: http:// dl.iust.ac.ir are. This section also policy and planning to expand this database and other activities, including communication with other research centers and internal and external information that occurs in this relation can be related to the project Amin (ILL Library country) and service BL (paper prepared for the academic members of the British Library) and workshops in and familiarity with online databases regularly for graduate students pointed out.
 
Central Library online resources three categories: e journal, data base and e book are divided.

Lending

 

 

The central library of the university has 47771 titles and 108321 copies of general, academic, and reference books, 70 % of which are specialized English engineering and technical books.

  Clients can become a member of the library, search the title in the computer site, and then borrow the books or use them in the study hall.

References

  References including dictionaries, encyclopedias, and etc. are kept in this section. The sources in this section can not be borrowed and are allowed to be studied in the study hall; however, copies can be made.

Journals

Farsi and English scientific and technical magazines are kept in this section for researchers' needs. There are approximately 1033 magazines which are classified in two groups alphabetically:

A: current publications (Farsi and English)

B: previous periods' collections (Farsi and English) and boundnd books.

This section can be used by IUST students and the members of Alghadir plan. Others can use the facilities of this section by showing valid recommendation letters or as guests (for one day). Moreover, the sources in this section are not lent but copies can be made

Audio-Visuals

The services of this section include 3000 VCDs in different fields such as: management, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, art, architecture, and etc. there are also 2300 CDs including software, movies, books, and conferences which university professors have attended.

The list of these CDs can be searched in the CD section of the library's software (dl.iust.ac.ir).the micro movie part of this section has very rich and unique information bank and includes 690 basic magazines in engineering and technical field. Among the most important ones IEEE can be named available from the first year of publication (1883) to 1993 in 2857 micro movies. Moreover clients can have access to the original articles by scanner. It worth mentioning that the services of this section are sent for other universities in case of any request. Moreover copies are made from CDs and articles of micro movies are scanned in this section.

Orders

This section has two external and internal parts and is responsible for providing the libraries' sources such as books, publication, etc. the necessary sources are selected by the book committee. First the necessities of the central library and faculties are provided, and then the requirements are classified according to their superiority and the books are bought through an auction or by signing a contract. It should be mentioned that the orders section supervises the agent company's activities to provide the books on time.

Technical services

 

 

This section is one of the first active parts of the library and has been established in 1360. Among the responsibilities of this section are arrangement and classification of books. The necessary information for book identification is provided according to the international standards of listing and the congress classification system. For ease of access to the books, lists are arranged alphabetically according to the author's name, title, and subject. Moreover, giving specialized consultation to the librarians and to the libraries is also among the activities of this section. It should be mentioned that the listing of the books in the faculties are done in the central library by experts.

Digital Library


The newest section of the library is the digital library that has started its activity since 1380.

Its activities are the followings:

A: Establishment and expansion of digital library

Establishment of the integrated mechanized system of the digital library has been done in the faculties and is being exploited now. Users can have access to the central library and the faculties' library by going to dl.iust.ac.ir email address in their own faculty and searching.



B: changing digital sources

  • Changing the printed copies of theses and dissertations (up to 1381) to electronic copies which are available offline in the integrated system of the digital library. The complete list is also available through dl.iust.ac.ir email address
  • Providing approximately 12016 e-books from the valuable English reference books. About 5000 titles are now available offline in the integrated system of the library.
  • Providing approximately 1073 electronic copies of printed journals which exist in the central library. These copies will be available in near future.
  • Providing OCR of all English sources mentioned in the last two points above.
  • Providing BL article bank, proceeding, and articles and seminars held out of the country in which the professors of this university have attended and presented articles.

This section has unique equipment and valuable experiences in changing printed sources to digital ones.

C: the computer supporting section

This section controls the computer networks of the central library. Activities of this section include: managing the libraries' software, managing the software and the computer sites' hardware, and removing software or hardware problems in the computer stations.
Scan

 

The scan section that has started its activities in the summer of 1380 is responsible for scanning the sources in the library for the ease of access for professors and students. The sources are being scanned with a a very equipped scanner. Till now most of the theses, many internal sources, and some of the articles and seminars have been scanned. Moreover, 10138 magazines and 11517 English books have been transformed to electronic files.
