  • چکيده
    Abstract Software-Defined Networking (SDN), by decoupling the control plane from the data plane, has revolutionized network management, enabling centralized control an‎d network programmability. However, with the increasing scale of networks an‎d the emergence of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, an‎d 5G networks, the single-controller model faces fundamental challenges like scalability an‎d a Single Point of Failure (SPOF). To overcome these limitations, the multi-controller architecture has emerged as a dominant solution for large-scale SDN networks. This approach distributes the workload among controllers an‎d provides redundancy to achieve improved performance, horizontal scalability, an‎d fault tolerance. This research aims to quantitatively an‎d qualitatively analyze the performance of various distributed control models (such as flat, hierarchical, an‎d federated architectures) in extensive SDN networks. The challenges of implementing these architectures, including state synchronization, controller placement, an‎d dynamic load balancing, are also explored. Key performance metrics such as latency in processing flows, control system throughput, resource utilization (CPU an‎d memory), an‎d recovery time after failure will be analyzed an‎d compared. This research seeks to provide practical guidelines for selec‎ting an‎d designing the most optimal distributed control architecture by simulating realistic scenarios. The literature review also covers foundational research in multi-controller architectures, performance eva‎luation an‎d load balancing, large-scale practical implementations, an‎d modern distributed controllers like ONOS an‎d OpenDaylight. By filling the existing knowledge gap, this study provides empirical data an‎d clear comparative metrics for informed decision-making regarding control architectures in future digital infrastructures.
