Abstract
The quick and chaotic city development process of third-world countries increases problems such as extensive and arbitrary expansion of cities, long commuting distances, disability in recognition of human needs, variety of pollutions, unemployment, scarcity of proper housing, emergence and social contradictions, loss of sense of belonging to the environment, and disjunction of social connection and communications. All of these issues could be regarded as improper civic condition and qualities, which is accompanied by side effects such as negative impacts on physical and mental health; accordingly disorders in population social, psychological, physical, and reduction in body immune system and exposure to different illnesses are the results of such a condition. For the last decades there have been considerable studies about the relationship between landscape and life quality, either biological or physical, or perceptual or behavioral. The relationship between landscape and public health is very important. As a result improvement in design and planning for influential factors of environment for human health is necessary. The Healing Landscape considers the following factors to improve the environment qualities and public health:
1. Human needs
2.Healthy social relationships
3.Interactive relation between human and environment
4.Interaction between environment and natural landscape
In this study other urban development factors such as healthy city, sustainable and happy development (sustainable happiness), urban agriculture, and Biophilic City have been considered as well.
Mehran Rood –a river located in Tabriz City between Qaari Bridge and Stone Bridge- is the main focus of this study. This river was one of the most functional elements of the Tabriz City in the past, however has lost its functionality for public due to numerous problems.
According to the theoretical structure (resulted from theoretical foundation of this study), recreation of fundamental function of Mehran Rood as a natural element of the city of Tabriz has been considered in this study. A variety of sequencing is provided for the healing dimension (physical, spiritual, emotional, social, and mental), and healing environments (artificial, natural, symbolic, and social).
