Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) system is a critical component of modern electronic warfare. In this systems, knowing the frequency of radar pulses is important such as knowing the amplitude level, pulse width and TOI.
In this work, the classic configuration of IFM based on Delay lines is described. Some disadvantages of this type of IFM are lower sensitivity(-60dBm), lower frequency accuracy (3MHz), temperature sensitive, complex calibration, sensitive to phase and amplitude unbalancing and incorrect operation in pulse on pulse and pulse on CW interference.
In this project, a new structure of IFM is proposed and introduced. A new idea for designing and modifying of new receiver components such as input bandpass filter, amplitude equalizer, wideband power divider, processing hardware and processing software is described. finally, proposed system is fabricated at 1GHz~2GHz frequency band and all the measured results are in very good agreement with theoretical predictions.
Some advantages of the new design are sensitivity about -70dBm, frequency accuracy better than 500KHz, temperature insensitive, fast calibration and correct operation in pulse on pulse and pulse on CW interference.
