Abstract:
This study concentrates on effect of fibers’ tensile strength of fibers’ on shear strength of municipal solid wastes in Kahrizak landfill. These studies consisted of large scale triaxial tests in consolidated – undrained state on the new and aged solid wastes in Kahrizak landfill. At first, basic properties of samples such as moisture content and organic content were determined, then in order to investigate the effect of fibers on shear strength of waste, plastic fibers with 3 different tensile strengths (7, 16 and 21 MPa) with different weight contents (0 and %12) were used. The Average measured moisture content in new samples was %87 while it was %60 in samples with 9 years age, also organic content for new and aged samples was determined to be %73 and %26, respectively. The results showed that waste’s fibers are one the main providers for landfill’s strength and with increase in tensile strength of fibers, the effect of this part in shear strength of landfill will increase, in other words, regards to stress-strain response of samples, the application of fibers with higher tensile strength will lead to increase in excessive stress and internal friction angle.
