Abstract:
Earthquake is an inevitable phenomena,whitch can damage infrastructures and lifelines of every country.railroad transportation sys. as one of the most important infrastructures should perform its role in every circumstances to satisfy safe and stable travelling,specially in earthquake and its performance must be done in acceptable way.past experiences of earthquake have shown railroad components including track,technical and non-technical structures are really vulnerable against earthquake so that it can lead to serious results in short or long term like disruption of cargo and passenger transportation.Thus,for standing against unpleasant consequences serious proceedings must be done befor taking place of earthquake for instance seismic retrofit of railway network,preparation and codification of guidelines for seismic response.In this thesis,considering lack of appropriate guidelines for local condition of Iranian railway, in addition to study earthquakes occurred in the past and their destructive effects,available instructions for inspection and operation have been investigated also seismic design and retrofit technologies for railway components against earthquake have been studied. Finally a comprehensive guideline for inspection has been suggested to be applied for Iranian railway.
