Abstract:
In countries with hydropower generation potential, hydropower as a Renewable energy has great importance. Nevertheless due to the huge investment on hydropower projects, economic feasibility and main designed parameters of hydro projects are extremely important. in this study a simulation – optimization model has been developed. Simulation model consists of hydro energy module and economic module. In developing hydro energy module, WEAP software has been used. In spite of powerful capabilities, there are some limitations for hydropower systems modeling in WEAP. To improve these capabilities some scripts in the scripting environment of WEAP have been written to enable it in hydropower simulation based on the traditional sequential streamflow routing (SSR) methodology. then computation efficiency of the developed model has been evaluated by some numerical tests. For developing economic module, electricity market price and alternative thermal plant has been used as standard method to estimate hydropower benefit. also external costs of electricity generation and clean development mechanism and effect of them on hydropower projects economic analysis has been discussed. Subsequently hydro energy – economic model has been itergrated with particle swarm optimization algorithm, and the developed optimization-simulation approach has been used to solve the problem of optimal design of karun 2 project. In optimal design based on market price method NWL and MOL respectively 672 and 668 masl , installed capacity 310 and plant factor 0.19 are calculated. by adding CDM income, generated energy and net benefit are improved. In optimal design based on alternative thermal method NWL 672 masl, MOL 668 masl , installed capacity 499 and plant factor 0.15 are calculated.
