Abstract
A building is not only a plain facade. It is consist of intricate system that control the environment which is the result of climate factors such as temperature, light, air movement, humidity and etc. Also, it is crucial to know the effectiveness of these factors through energy consumption, durability and comfort within.
The first step through designing a sustainable building is considering climatic design. In general, the buildings which are sensitive to climate of their surrounding environment have more optimized function related to energy. If the Natural elements such as sunlight, solar heat, wind and etc. interact with the building in a desired way, the usage of different forms of energy will definitely reduce and this will lead to create the desired thermal comfort levels within the building.
Undoubtedly, one of the best available sustainable buildings are traditional houses. In past houses were imagined as a shelter against hardship of life so, they have tried to design a place not only for surviving danger but also providing the climatic comfort.
This study aims to investigate variety of traditional housing and the common applied strategies of different places in hot and arid areas of the world. For achieving this aim, various applied strategies of sustainable traditional houses have been studied. Toward having the maximum thermal comfort and also reduction in using mechanical heating and cooling system in the interior,it is substantial to survey the thermal behavior between the interior and exterior of this traditional houses. The research methodology has been firstly accomplished by studying the literature reviews for understanding the applied factors and the specification of traditional houses in hot-arid climate. for further studies, computer simulation has been applied.
At the end, the project will particularly focus on design and development a residential complex in Naien which is located in hot- arid zone of Iran and improvise strategies to optimize their energy efficiency. In this section, the studies have also been done by simulation software. The generated comparative results will be later used for drawing out conclusions regarding the effectiveness of these strategies.
