Abstract:
Titania is one of the best photocatalytic materials. Studies show titania coating on monodisperse silica spheres can improve the photocatalytic properties
In this study, colloidal and polymeric titania sol were synthesized separately.Titania sol was prepared by using titanium isopropoxide(TTIP) , isopropanol (i-PrOH),HCl, HNO3 and deionized water.Silica microspheres prepared by stober sol-gel process and using by tetra ethyl ortosilicate(TEOS) , etanol, ammonia solution, deionized water. Silica microsphere particales were obtained within 200-500 micrometere.Temperature, pH and reactant concentration variation were Including effective factors of particals size. Then titania doped ceria synthesized by Ce/Ti different rates (0.05,0.1 and0.15) and examined.SiO2-TiO2-CeO2 core-shell particles with monodisperse silica core and nanostructured titania-ceria shell were synthesized by a multi-step coating method based on electrostatic attraction and properties were characterized by SEM and XRD. Also, the photocatalytic activity of the core-shell particles was evaluated using methylene blue degradation in the presence of ultraviolet radiation by UV–visible spectrophotometer. Polymeric titania-ceria samples showed better photocatalytic activity as pure titania. Photocatalytic efficiency achieved from 67.39 prcent for polymeric pure titania to 81.39 percent for polymeric titania-ceria with Ce/Ti=0.05. Photocatalytic efficiency obtained 80.25 and 79.34 for titania-ceria 0.1 and 0.15,respectively.
Also silica microspheres coated colloidal titania-ceria showed a higher photocatalytic activity than that of pure titania in first times.
