Abstract:
Construction is one of the most impactful industries in the prosperity of a nation. However, due to many issues, productivity in construction is lower than other sectors. Implementation of innovation in construction is one of the methods to address this concern which recently has been significantly discussed in this industry.
Building Information Modeling (BIM), as a novelty in the industry, is a step beyond Computer Aided Design (CAD) solutions, which targets waste elimination in the process of information system along with integration for construction discipline in all project phases.
Therefore, in the last decade, the tendency to use BIM has exponentially increased in developed nations. This trend has become an integral tool in the construction industry of many countries, but unfortunately, to this date, in most of the under-developing nations such as Islamic Republic of Iran, BIM, and its implementation has occurred rarely. The first step to satisfying this need is to identify the critical success factors for BIM implementation in Iran which have been thoroughly investigated in this research.
After a thorough study of BIM literature and its status in various countries, a questionnaire was developed based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) focusing on CSFs for Implementation of BIM in Iran. A survey has been conducted for many industries noble organizations. In reference to the analysis of the study, policy and legislation of governments and employers were founded as the most critical success category. Further, legislation of governments, employee’s participation, and employers' request was introducing as the CSFs for BIM implementation in Iran. The findings are in coordination with similar studies in other nations. It is wished that this study could guide the path for organizations such as employees, consultants and designers, contractors and manufacturers involved in Iran’s construction industry.
