Abstract
Living spaces in every region is formed under the impact of cultural, environmental, social, and political history of that region. Without a doubt, the first memories and experiences of people which have an important role in their worldview are created in the house. Lack of attention to people, working style, lifestyle, their desires and experiences in modern designing of houses and turning to imported architecture has resulted low quality of residential life, loss of life, vitality, mobility, a sense of belonging and identity. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of inhabitant’s culture and their way of life according to the housing pattern of Birjand city. The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics and principles of formation and spatial species in traditional houses of Birjand and extraction of its efficient elements. The research method used in this study is a combination of descriptive-analytic and interpretive-historical methods. This study examines the traditional and modern houses in Birjand using documentary resources and interview with residents of Birjand. The results of this research shows Physical and conceptual characteristics of Birjand houses in the form of tables, images and maps. Finally, based on the results, it will be able to present solutions in order to design residential complexes according to new needs and human values.
