Abstract
To set the nation's general policies in air transportation sector as well as the investment amount in this sector, governors should have a clear sketch and understanding about the economic relationships between air transportation section and other sectors in the economy system. This thesis aims to investigate the role of aviation transportation sector on the national economy of Iran and its influence on other sectors of economy by using Input-Output analysis.
In order to evaluate the impact of aviation transportation on other sectors of the economy, changes of one unit in monetary value of final demand and value added approach, backward and forward linkages and Hypothetical Extraction Approach (HEA) has been implemented. The inter-industrial transactions tables of 2004 Iran's economy provided by the Ministry of Energy of Iran has been used as the statistical reference which is an update of Iran's nation input-output (I-O) tables of 2001.
According to the results presented, air transportation sector as a whole with nBLt=1.0500>1 and nFLt=0.7817<1 as well as aviation transportation of passenger section with nBLt=1.0766>1 and nFLt=0.7516<1 are evaluated as sectors affiliated to supplies of other sectors while air transportation of freight with nBLt=0.8609<1 and nFLt=1.0302>1 is introduced as a sector affiliated to demands of other sectors. Moreover, by comparing aviation transportation with other types of transportation sectors (Road, Marine and Rail) with the use of HEA measure, it can be seen road transportation has 1.61×105 monetary value reduction in output which represents the most dependency between these two sectors (aviation and road transportation).
Investigating the economics of aviation transportation as a whole and dissociation in passenger and freight has been considered as the novelty of this thesis.
