Abstract
Prolonged standing while using the kitchen sink, due to static states, caused different skeletal disorders such as back pain and lower extremity vascular problems. Considering the importance of controlling the damage, in this project, it has been tried to introduce functional and ergonomic solution to reduce muscle fatigue due to the use of the kitchen sink among housewives. According to the subject, a research with a user-centered approach was accomplished to identify problems and needs of the users towards this goal. 78 people were interviewed. Studies on common ergonomic interventions for reducing pain and fatigue caused by prolonged standing took place and its results were evaluated. By analyzing the results of the questionnaire and library studies and review articles, research questions were answered and ideation phase according to the extracted criteria and standards, began. Selected design was chosen from among primary sketches and were evaluated by users and experts and was promoted with the results of user-center process. Study Model was constructed and computer modeling were created. Finally, for the final evaluation prototype was built at a scale of 1 to 1. Evaluation was performed in three different working posture. The first posture, standing, second posture, the sit/stand stool and the third posture, the sit/stand stool and footrest. The only tool for measuring discomfort and pain, was Visual Analog scale. Based on the findings from questionnaires, 75% of activities were carried out in standing position. Moreover, Pearson's correlation coefficient test, showed that standing posture related with low back and knee pain. The results and findings of this study show that using a sit/stand stool with footrest creates least amount of pain and discomfort to the user. With marking the onset of fatigue for each posture, it can be concluded that sit/stand stool has been effective to increase working time without fatigue.
