In the late twentieth century, with the publication of international statements such as Rio, issues ranging from environmental degradation and reduce the ability of future generations to enjoy the natural resources of the planet, drew international attention, and the beginning of the move towards stability and sustainable development was necessary to achieve its intended purpose, the cooperation of various sectors of society, including industry and subsequently the construction industry. On the other hand, each project can be in three dimensions of sustainability (environmental, economic and social) impact, so in order to align with the global movement, it is necessary to lead the industry towards sustainability.
Given the importance of the issue, in a construction project is required in addition to the three objectives of the project (cost, time and quality), to look at sustainability as a fourth objective to be special. In a construction project, the project manager is responsible for achieving the project objectives. So, with the addition of a new purpose in the name of stability, primarily in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development should be the powers and responsibilities of project managers and project stakeholders in three main subtypes (client, consultant and contractor) to be determined.
The study by compiling indicators related to sustainability in the construction industry, trying to determine the authority, responsibility and accountability for project managers. In this regard, the 16 sustainability indicators derived from literature and then Likert scale questionnaire was given to the elite level of authority, responsibility and accountability project manager with respect to the specified index. Analysis of the questionnaire by TOPSIS to rank areas of authority and responsibility for project managers.
