Open graded asphalt mixtures with one of the mixtures are that used in asphalt pavements and increasing the permeability and reduce the sound of the wheel is the main feature. This is a common use of these mixtures of asphalt pavements that rain water into the porous asphalt on a solid graded asphalt layer to be penetrated and then to the sides of the drain. Another use of this mixture that is permeable pavements have been considered in recent years that pavement structure on the surface of the water allows you to freely penetrate through the layers to penetrate.
In this study, it is due to the use of open graded asphalt mixtures with, the role of various parameters on the permeability of the lower layer of pavement as a result of the passage of time, to be examined. The pavement top layer of porous asphalt mixes are composed of layers with high permeability. So the pavement surface caused by rain water collected into the pavement and then penetrates the soil. Because this type of surface area of porous asphalt pavement and in terms of practical importance due to its permeability, reducing the permeability of the surface parameters were evaluated. Among the parameters is that can reduce the permeability and porosity of the layers, surface runoff pollutants, type and porous asphalt mix design, precipitation, traffic and run and the quality of pavement construction. In this study, field experiments and the effectiveness of each of these parameters were evaluated.
In studies conducted, the results have been that effective porosity with a maximum nominal size, very important factor for the permeability of the pavement mix design. The use of mineral filler to increase the permeability of concrete at a rate of 4 to 7.5 percent for all kinds will be graded. Moreover, this result has been achieved that in all types of traffic aggregation 1 to 3 million equivalent of virtually pavement in terms of applications, loses its permeability.
Very important issue in relation to this type of pavement in the pavement freight traffic in different situations. Major failures is longitudinal cracks and rutting of the pavement.
