Hospitals and medical centers are the main components of a health system. However, operating rooms are the main part of a hospital. A large share of the costs and revenues of a hospital is related to operating rooms. Thus increasing productivity within the operating rooms has a significant impact on the ultimate performance of a hospital. Also improved performance in operating rooms causes increasing economic indicators in hospital, rate of services and also patient's satisfaction.
In this regard, the present study has developed a reaction scheduling model with consideration the human aspects, non-elective patients (emergency & urgent), uncertainty at the surgery time and also other times, allocation of resources that are before and after the operation room (integration) and the limitations of the hospitals in Iran.
Mathematical models have been formulated in three general format as the allocation problem, sequencing problem and reaction scheduling problem. In this study have been developed two models in allocation problem (SSAM, ISSAM), two models in sequencing problem (S3M, IS3M) and also one algorithm (RANA) and two models in reaction scheduling problem (SRS, ISRS). This thesis has proposed a new heuristic algorithm (HARC) to solve the mathematical models.
Then, applying real data, have been evaluated the models and proposed solution and effects of the their implementation in practice. Comparisons with the current methods in the hospital, confirms the value and high effectiveness of the models.
