Abstract:
One of the most important parameters which must be considered during the operation of the ballasted track is its lateral stability. Inadequate lateral stability in different parts of the rail track may be caused problems such as loss of lateral geometry, track buckling, which lead to high costs financial and in some cases can even be casualties. Several factors may affect lateral stability of ballasted track. Among these factors can mention to weight and shape of sleeper, ballast aggregates shape, geometric parameters of ballast layer, rails and fastenings. The major lateral resistance is caused by the interaction of sleepers and ballast. Therefore, the effect of sleepers with different shape and weight and also the effect of different conditions of ballast like geometric parameters of ballast layer and ballast aggregates help to provide the required lateral resistance. Ballast aggregates over time due to operation of railway and environmental issues are subject to change in terms of shape and size. Deterioration of ballast aggregates deal to loss ballast layer performance in terms of mechanical and geometry properties.
Considering the importance of lateral stability ballasted track, in these project mainly pay to investigation the effect of ballast aggregates deterioration on the ballasted track lateral resistance. By performing single sleeper push test (STPT), the lateral resistance of each of the points has been measured. Finally lateral resistance diagram by ballast aggregate physical parameters (angularity, percentage of long-shaped, flake shaped percent) drawing and interpretation of the results is discussed.
