With the advancement of technology and increasing amount of data and establishing large databases, the need for management and decision support tools has also increased. Over the past decades, a large amount of data has been gathered and stored in databases.
In fact, organizations are drowned in information while thirsting for knowledge.
This means, that organizations have not been able to properly use the knowledge of the data. The field of education is also not exceptions and in order to stay in a competitive environment and to achieve an advanced educational system, it should use its maximum data. The Knowledge, which deals with discovering hidden rules in large databases and extracting useful patterns from these databases, is called data mining. In the field of education, data mining helps to improve educational processes for students as well as for managerial issues.
This research is intended to predict the success of students in selected fields, Educational background data of graduated students from E-commerce department of IUST University of Tehran has been studied and by using the CRISP data mining Model and Clementine SPSS software, we extracted some rules by using some of Data mining methods such as: Classification and Association rules that perform as a decision support system that can guide students and educators to improve their educational processes.
