Abstract:
Today, the production of plastic waste in the world and its distribution in nature is inevitable and is constantly increasing, which adversely affects wildlife or humans. Therefore, in this research, the potential of using waste plastic bottles (PET) in order to reinforce and improve soil strength parameters is studied. For this purpose, a series of triaxial drained and undrained shear tests on mixtures of sandy soil and PET with deferent densities (40,70) and confining pressure(50 to 500 kpa) has been conducted. Results shows that increase in resistance is significant with increasing pet's percentage. the use of plastic waste in soil improves not only soil properties, but also has a positive impact on the environment and is a new place for using waste plastics.
