Abstract
Today, increasing urbanization growth rate and turning many of rural areas into urban centers, causes intensive environmental quality decadence in these new urban settlements (rural towns). Therefore in this research to improve the environment quality of these settlements, First of all develops criteria for their environmental quality assessment. Because of literature shortage in field of rural towns, opinions of rural design experts has been exploited along with views of experts in urban design field.
This paper is organized as follows. First, the most important criteria for assessing the quality of rural town environment has been collected. Then based on rural tourism approach in this study, definitions and concepts of rural tourism and its principles and solutions have been categorized according to rural town quality criteria. Finally, in order to improve the environmental quality of the Sorkhrood rural town, by the approach of rural tourism, according to theoretical foundations, city vision has been defined and then some part of it have been designed.
