The MTU four-stroke 16-cylinder Diesel engines used in Iran Runner locomotives in the railway industry of Iran are one of the most advanced engines, which are designed for marine applications. Considering the importance of controlling vibrations in internal combustion engines, there are various methods for controlling levels of torsional and linear vibrations in these engines and preventing them from transfering to locomotive. In this study ,in order to compare healthy and misfiring conditions of engine,a simulation was carried out in Adams-Engine software.The vibrations level of engine in normal condition were extracted,and then by creating an intentional misfire in engine,the response of vibration were achieved,in order to detect the failure,using vibration condition monitoring and responses of vibration.. Finally to verify simulation results and achieve reasonable conclusions, exprimental tests were carried out.
