In this study, the stochastic updating of model parameters is evaluated. Needless to say that structures and measurements are always subject to uncertainties, so the application of the stochastic updating can be magnified. These uncertainties stem from various sources, and nominally identical structures have different responses in reality as well as their geometric tolerances.
Through the stochastic updating unlike deterministic one, which response is deterministic, there is a bound of response. Hence, it is expected that detected parameters have a bound rather than single value. Apparently, in order to have a bound of parameters, they should have a mean value and a covariance value.
In this regard, unknown parameters of friction force in contact support modeled by Valanis model update through stochastic parameter updating. Also, finite element model of structure is built, besides different algorithms of Kalman filter is employed for updating. The updating is done through stochastic and nonlinear mode.
