Abstract
Iranian carpet is an abstract of the best qualities and basic principles of aesthetics creation of a place. The antiquity of these principles is more than three thousand years, which has been a practical answer to various spatial dimensions (visual, functional, social, time, ...) in different historical periods.
The ancient pattern of Ferdows, the ideal of the most desirable space of Iranians, has been revealed in many elements of citygardens of Isfahan and Azeri schools, and even in various spaces such as squares, religious spaces, gardens, symbolic axes and other spaces.
The purpose of this research is to identify and apply these concepts in urban design. Therefore, in this regard, the concepts of Golestan, Mehrabi and Toranji carpet patterns have been adapted with the elements of the urban spaces of Isfahan school as the best example of the concept of gardencity.
The designing part of this research is about the identity of gardencity of Urmia and its lack of appearance in the urban environment. The garrison of Urmia has been selected as a design sample for recreation the Ferdows model at the garrison space.
This research has been carried out with a qualitative-practical approach, of historical-interpretive and symbolic studies, and with the continuous process of comparative study of carpet concepts with urban designer theorists and examples of urban space experiences in Isfahan gardencity.
The results of this research indicate that there is a strong relationship between the patterns of the Chaharbagh axis of Isfahan, the Naqshe-e-jahan Square of Isfahan, Iranian gardens and Mehrabi, Golestan, Toranjni patterns of Persian carpets from the perspective of the principles and spatial qualities.
