Abstract
One of the most important criteria for assessing cities and urban environments is the quality of urban public spaces in cities. Today, public spaces are not shaped according to the needs of the users, there is no life in them, and people do not feel satisfied. As a result, the role of spaces is reduced merely as a link between destinations.
In fact, urban spaces need to be responsive to their users and designed and managed to meet the needs of their users. Awareness of the needs and preferences of the people and design the space with these requirements is one of the most important conditions for the success of the public space.
According to the principles and criteria for improving the quality and increasing the utility of urban spaces, comfort and tranquility of people is one of the most important issues. If the people do not feel comfortable with the climatic factors, they will not be present in urban spaces except when they have to. By using the principles of knowledge of design through climate and the design appropriate to factors which affecting human comfort (such as wind and radiation), it can have profound effects on reducing energy costs. and also achieving one of the goals of any urban space: vitality. The specific climate of each area leads to certain behaviors of the people of that area and requires a special design, so the general principles for the climate design can not be achieved.
In this research, the main purpose is to Investigate the quality of urban spaces in previous studies and also the ideas of pundits about the public spaces and examine different experiences, to provide a conceptual framework for improving the quality of urban public spaces, because In urban design, a set of factors favors each other to create a successful urban space. Then, by examining the micro-climate and factors affecting climate comfort (such as wind and radiation), efforts have been made to highlight the importance of the issue of climate-friendly design, since today this important principle has been forgotten.
Finally, with the help of the framework, and collecting data from Derakhti boulevard (between Dadman Blvd. and Sepehr Avenue) and analysis them, vision, goals, strategy and policies have been developed. By designing and evaluating scenarios with AHP the best scenario selected and started to design.
The results of this research indicate that, by observing the climatic principles and paying attention to the factors which affecting climate comfort, along with other principles and policies of pedestrianization, it is possible to provide a suitable platform for creating high quality urban spaces.
