Abstract
In Iran entering modern technologies into the realm of architecture and improper use of it has created many challenges. We have an independent identity and sublime architecture in the past, which meet the material and spiritual issues and needs of the people of this land. But now contemporary architecture in responding to that issues is inefficient. In this study, the subjects dealt with the use of new technologies in order to perpetuate the Iranian identity in architecture is investigated: The meaning of identity of its important elements (history and tradition) has been studied, and different contemporary architects opinions classified and described. The impact of modern technologies on the architecture identity, and approaches to dealing with this issue also mentioned. Then a literature review for explaining a framework for Iranian architecture identity, has been presented. Finally, architecture and technology expert opinion on how new technologies compatible with the Iranian identity, through questionnaires, is analyzed; and some recommendations were presented. Many of modern technologies challenges are related to the use of technology, and not its inherent properties. For efficient use of technology, it is necessary to develop new technologies for expression of the sublime and spiritual aspects of meaning and take compliance with local characteristics.
