Palladium nanoparticles/nickel oxide nanostructures/carbon cloth (Pd NPs/NiO NSs/CC) catalyst was fabricated on CC nanofibers as a substrate for direct alcohol fuel cell (DAFC) anode. Two step electrodeposition of NiO NFs and Pd NPs was done through the chronopotentiometric methods. Deposition of NiO NFs was under heating, while Pd NPs deposition was performed at room temperature. The morphology and composition of the catalyst components was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD). In addition, the electrochemical properties of the catalyst toward electrochemical oxidation of alcohols including methanol, ethanol and ethylene glycol in alkaline medium were studiedby cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurments. In comparision to Pd NPs/CC electrode, the catalyst showed higher electrocatalytic activity due to the larger surface area provided by NiO NFs and longer durability for the alcohol electro-oxidation.
