Engineering structures experience different conditions in their lifetime, which may lead to various damage under these conditions. Hence, the identification and investigation of damage in structures has been a very important research topic in recent decades. The purpose of this study was to determine the location and severity of damage using model updating methods and signal processing. In this research, failure detection was identified using a two-step method in the first step using Wavelet transform to identify the location of the failure, and in the second step, by providing a suitable target function, the metaheuristic algorithms were used to obtain the severity of the failure. In the metaheuristic algorithms of the main topic, the use of an appropriate target function is needed to better and faster convergence of the answer. Also, the noise in input data is also a serious challenge to this discussion. To minimize the problem, as well as better convergence, the wavelet transform is used to identify the suspected elements of failure and the estimated strain of the elements for the failure index. In this research, several algorithms are used and compared. Finally, the proposed method of numerical examples and numerical modeling by finite element method will be used to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.
