In recent years, syntheses of 1,4-dihydropyridines and Polyhydroquinoline became more important because of their multiple usages in pharmaceutical compositions. Some of the most important of these usages are drugs such as nifedipine, amlodipine, calcium-channel blocker medications in diseases such as blood pressure, anti-tumor, and anti-platelet aggregation drugs as well as in Alzheimer’s disease treatments. In general, the Huntzsch method has been reported for the synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridine and Polyhydroquinoline’s derivations. In this method, an aldehyde derivative, ammonium acetate, and α-β dicarbonyl derivatives have been usually used. Today, this reaction is carried out by using a solvent of water and ethanol, or in solvent-free conditions using macroscopic, ultrasonic and also metallic catalysts.
In this study, the functionalized magnetic graphene oxide with 1,3,5- tris (2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate and copper was used as an inhomogenous efficient catalyst in a Huntzsch multi-component reaction in order to increase the rate and efficiency of the reaction. Easy separation and purification are the benefits of this new catalyst.
