In this study, due to the importance of using polymers in oil pipelines, the effect of different factors on the polymer drag reduction in an oil pipeline have been studied. In this regard, the governing equations of polymeric solutions have been investigated and the simulation of oil flow containing polymer in a pipeline are performed using open source CFD package named OpenFOAM. In order to validate the numerical solution, the results are compared with the DNS data. which shows a good agreement between results. Numerical results are presented in 5 sections including, Saturation of drag reduction, Weisenberg number, Reynolds number, maximum extension of the polymer chains and maximum drag reduction. It was observed that the frictional pressure drop reduction up to 60% can be achieved in oil pipelines.
