Abstract:
In this work, a detailed and comprehencive investigation is carried out on the effects of
different parameters on pulse shape of the pulsed CO2 lasers. For this purpose, various factors
such as: Nitrogen gas ratio, Helium gas ratio, reflectance of the oscillator front mirror,
resonator length as well as the gas pressure were changed and the related pulse shapes
together with the energies were recorded. Then, by accurate analysis of the obtained data, the
variations in different emission parameters of the laser such as: total energy, energy
distribution of the pulse spike, energy distribution of the pulse tail, peak amplitude of the
pulse spike, peak amplitude of the pulse tail, time during of the pulse spike, length of the
pulse tail and also their ratios were determined. Finally, the findings were interpreted based
on the physical principles of the CO2 lasers operation.
According to the analysis of the experimented result; To obtain pulses with the highest amount of
energy, the ratio of the gas mixtures should be CO2:N2:He ≡ 1: 1: 0/8, the front mirror reflection be
80% and pressure of the gas mixtures be 3 atmospheres to obtain the pulses with the minimum ratio of
the spike duration to tail duration, the ratio of the gas mixtures be CO2:N2:He ≡ 1: 0/4: 11, the front
mirror reflection be 50%, the pressure of the gas mixtures be 3 atmospheses and the length of the
cavity be 90 cm.
