ABSTRACT
Regarding the compensation of modernity harms, the issue of “Sustainable Development” was proposed as a cure during 60s-70s following the advent of modern age and its irrecoverable consequences on the fields of Architecture, Urban Design, and Ecology. The mentioned issue jenerally included “Economical and Ecological Sustainability”, while “Social Sustainability” studies as “user presence continuity” in architectural spaces was almost excluded, sporadic and non-coded. It seems that applying “Social Sustainability Design Strategies” might increase the duration and quality of users presence in cultural spaces. Therefore compatibility of a cultural building complexes with the issue seems to be essential.
Achieving spatial pattern desgn for cultural complexes based on “Social Sustainability” is meant to be the purpose of this thesis research.
This is an applied research and the research method is a “quantitative/qualitative combination”. Initially components affecting “Social Sustainability” were integratedly discovered and extracted from library sources of studies. Secondly, using “content analysis” method, design strategies fulfilling the mentioned extracted components were speculated. Finally, by a survey method using quastionaire on a statistical society of 90 people, design strategies were prioritized.
The results indicate that in order to increase “Social Sustainability” in a cultural spaces, six factors are effective in order of mportance reduction as follows: 1-Social interaction improvement 2-Linking architecture with natural spaces 3-Meaning-Oriented design 4-Readability of forms and functions 5-Spatial dynamism 6-Spatial safety and securirty.
In addition, this thesis includes the studies and documents regarding the design process of “Monumental complex for diver myrtyrs of imposed war Iran-Iraq,1980-1988”.
Key words: social sustainability, cultural space, user presence contiuity in space, monument for myrtyr
