Contemporaneous, due to the declining Competitive Advantage of firms, with the shortening of the product life cycle and the intensification of innovation in the process, it is important to analyze the Competitiveness of the industry to achieve firm success. In an Industrial Organization approach, the analysis of the competitors of the industry is deployed using a Strategic Groups map indicating the classification of firms pursuing the same strategies. Also, in the Resource-based View, the firm’s Technological Capabilities and Marketing Capabilities are considered as critical components of enterprise strategy.
This research, based on the two approaches of Industrial Organizations and Resource-based View in the field of High-Technology Industries, especially the Pharmaceutical industry in Iran, while investigating the impact of Technological Capabilities and Marketing Capabilities on firm financial performance, follows the extraction of the Strategic Groups of this industry based on these Capabilities. In this regard, after reviewing the literature, the design of model was carried out and then a questionnaire was developed for measuring the impact of Technological Capabilities and Marketing Capabilities on Firm Financial Performance, and after the approval of the topic's experts in the firms were distributed. In order to fit the model and study the research hypothesis, structural equation modeling based on the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach was used. The desirability of the reliability and validity indices provided in the research led to the fitting of the measurement models. As a result, the present research confirms the positive and significant relationship between the Technological Capabilities and Marketing Capabilities and the Firm Financial Performance. Finally, the Strategic Groups of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Iran are exhibit based on two dimensions of technological capabilities and marketing capabilities.
