Conflict is an inseparable part of an everyday life, so are construction projects which are no exceptions.
Such conflicts are not necessarily negative and if managed effectively, they can prove beneficial. As a result at the developments and varieties in construction projects, the first step to be taken is the specification at the cause of conflicts on the basis of the previous studies and researches.
Therefore, the present research was aimed at specifying and ranking the causes of conflicts in construction projects.
In Tehran concerning the three factors of employers, consultants and contractors.
The present study, objective- wise, has been practical and the data collection and analyses have been descriptively done. The population of the study were 956 people among managers, consultants and urban practitioners in Tehran and the ranking was finally carried out based on 246 questionnaires in total. The data was collected through the previous studies, documentation and reviews of literature available.
Going through the literature, it was revealed that contract problems with the score of 0.42 stands at the top of the factors resulting in conflicts, however, technical problems besides behavioral problems (0.31 and 0.27 respectively) are ranked as the second and the third.
Concerning the contract problems and the factors resulting in the conflicts. delay in temporary statement payments 0.14, changes in documentation and plan based on the needs of the employer 0.09, delay in land delivery 0.08, ambiguity in the terms and conditions of the terms and conditions of the contract 0.07 and unsuitable scheduling in projects 0.05 were ranked among other factors. Regarding the technical problems Daley and suspension on the part of the contractors 0.13, contractor’s work quality 0.06 , incomplete and wrong technical specifications 0.04, flaws in plans 0.04, flaws in cost estimation or quotation 0.03 were also specified and significance – wise ranked.
In terms of behavioral problems, disregarding the feasibility of the project, unclarity and incompleteness of the projects, employer’s management vulnerability, constructions team’s miscommunication and problems originated from cultural differences in the project team were ranked as 0.1, 0.054, 0.046, 0.040, 0.035 respectively.
