These days, Polymers have an important and extended role in the different industrial fields. By considering the increasing usage and importance of polymers, engineers and designers have a special focus on polymers in fabrication of engineering articles. The adhesion strength of metal-polymer interface is very important. One of the application of metal-polymer joint is in fabrication of hydrogen reservoir in automotive industry, which are made of polymer body and metallic insert. It is proved that during applying some pretreatments on metal surface, asperities will be formed on the metal (substrate) surface, then led into increment of the adhesion strength of metal-polymer, due to the formation of physical-mechanical interlock between metals and polymers.
The purpose of this project was finding some effective parameters of the flame and the sandblast pretreatments on increase of the adhesion strength of metal-polymer interface in case of hydrogen reservoir fabrication by rotomolding process and by changing these parameters. It was proved that the flame pretreatment didn’t have sensible positive effect on increment of strength of metal-polymer adhesion, in fabricated reservoir by rotomolding. On the other hand, the sandblast pretreatment was quite effective. It was proved, as size of corundum particles (which were used for blasting) from 212 to 240 micrometers and blasting time from 5 to 15 seconds increased, the strength of metal-polymer interface, was also increased from 1.6 to 2 micrometers. The aging behavior of Al-PE was studied and it was determined that the strength of this interface was first decreased, then increased and reduced, Finally. The temporary increase was discovered to be due to the formation of the chemical bonds between metal and polymer. Finally, this interface strength was decreased, because of the reduction of the mechanical properties of polymer agent of the joint, during Aging Phenomenon.
