Abstract
The study of the effect of the vehicle's impact on the crash severity has been one of the topics that researchers have been paid attention ot that in traffic safety. Between crash types,collision with fixed objects has less been paid attention. On the other hand, rural crashes are more important due to higher fatalities and higher speeds. As a result, the main objective of the study is to examine the safety of vehicles from the point of view of the ability to protect the occupants at collision with fixed objects in rural roads of Iran. Of course, in order to compare the performance of vehicles in different crashes, vehicle types and car brands have been investigated in rollover and two-vehicle crashes then also have been compared with the results of the collision with the objects. In order to achieve the desired goal, the driver injury severity as a dependent variable of the logistic regression model and the type, weight and brand of the cars along with other variables are considered as independent variables. The odds ratio was used as crashworthiness index for comparison of vehicles. Since the absolute maximum of used cars in Iran is internal, performance of domestic and foreign vehicles have been also compared with each other. The present study, in four sections, investigates the vehicle factor in the crash injury severities. The cars are compared with each other by dividing the model, type, weight and age at the time of the crash. The results show that foreign cars are much better than Iranian cars. SUVs and trucks had better performance than other vehicles. In considering the weight of the car, it was also found that weight gain does not necessarily improve the safety of the car, and the most dangerous weight category is for cars between 1500 and 2000 kilograms. In the study of car age on injury severity, it was also found that as the age of vehicles increases, the safety of the collision becomes weaker and More severe injuries are inflicted on the occupants. However, the effect of increasing vehicle age on the crash severity is not the same for all vehicles.
