As Iran, as an oil-rich country, has more than 10% of world oil resources, It has exposed to soil pollution with oil and petroleum products to a large extend. Petroleum products consist of dangerous chemicals, and they usually leak from fuel tanks and transmission lines, So it can endanger human environment and the other living organisms, and in addition to severe environmental hazards, relating to the soil type, It causes changes in soil strength of the site.
In this research, according to the groundwater level, lots of consolidation experiments have been done in order to study the effects of oil pollution on the parameters of the consolidation of clay soils of the refinery of Tehran, such as settlement changes (soil placement), compression coefficient, inflation coefficient and coefficient of consolidation of the case . The studied samples are made of the clay soil of the refinery of Tehran along with crude oil and diesel oil in contamination rate of 7, 10 and 13 from soil dry weight.
The results show an increase in the inflation coefficient and compression coefficient with an increase in the contamination rate and also the highest amount of settling has been done during the initial loading and in low stresses.
