In today's society, one of the most basic needs of any human society is the use of road transport. Due to the increasing number of vehicles to regulate road traffic, there is a need for legislation to target this. So, one of the most essential used tools in this area is the traffic signs. Nowadays, with the help of new technologies such as smart cars, traffic signs can be detected by image processing to enhance safety and reduce driving hazards. Hence, in this study, we used the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification for detection of traffic signs. The SIFT algorithm is highly resistant to object variations in brightness, viewing angle, scale and image rotation. Therefore, it is an efficient and robust algorithm. This work has many applications, such as the reading boards in smart cars.
