The plastic analysis and design, is an appropriate method to design of low-rise buildings. However, these methods are rarely used in computer programs, due to their limitations. In general, the computer programs based on the existing methods are time consuming or are not comprehensive. In recent years, meta-heuristic algorithms such as genetic and ant colony algorithms have found many applications in optimization problems. However, the main problem in using of meta-heuristic algorithms in the optimal plastic design of frames is that the existing plastic analysis method are time-consuming. Because, the procedure of optimization using meta-heuristic algorithms needs fairly large number of analysis.
In this thesis, an analytical method is presented for formulation of the collapse mechanisms of planar frames. Then, using these formulas, a novel method is presented for performing of first-order elastic-plastic analysis of planar frames, that its results are identical to the results of plastic analysis. Using this method, a plastic analysis can be done in a very short time. Afterward, the colliding bodies optimization(CBO) and its enhanced version(ECBO) algorithms are employed for performing the optimal plastic design of low-rise buildings.
