Abstract:
Track Maintenance Machines have an important role in keeping railway in service. Therefore, the importance of evaluating these machines and issuing solutions for improving their performance, repair and increasing their availability reach to high priority. Moreover, by attention to the many types of Track Maintenance Machines and failures of them, this report is limited to specific failures (means: Electrical and Electronic, Tamping Unit and Hydraulic systems) of Tamping Machine in Iran. At first, all failure data of this selected machine received by assist of certified persons and also surveying related databases for years 2012 & 2013. Then some specific failures data identified in Tamping Machines from practical and engineering point of views. Among all identified failure records (means in: Electrical and Electronic, Tamping Unit and Hydraulic systems), 40 numbers of them identified as effective failures. From this 40 numbers, 18 numbers of them identified as effective and with high risk failures.
Among 18 No. of failures, the most critical ones from OS (Occurrence x Severity) index point of view are: Worn out cartridge of hydraulic pump, collector shaft oil leakage, wearing out and breaking of tamping tools, cable disconnection of jacking system and damages of boxes relate to PCB (Printed Circuit Board) of tamping unit. Then, by using the FMEA method, risk analysis have been done for selected failures of this machine.
Among 18 No. of failures, the most critical ones from RPN (Risk Priority Number) index point of view are: Accumulator balloon burst, collector shaft oil leakage, wearing out and breaking of tamping tools, socket cable disconnection of power supply for sensors, tamping unit power supply circuit defect and cable disconnection of jacking system.
At the end, risk analysis performed for these failures and effective engineering solutions including designing and deploying PPM forms issued for reducing failure levels and their related risks. By reducing failure levels and their related risks in Tamping Machines, geometrical condition of railway tracks could be upgraded. Consequently, RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) components for railway fleet transportation should be improved.
