Abstract
The old and traditional neighborhoods of Iranian cities used to be a place of living and a sense of belonging for their inhabitants, but these neighborhoods with some unplanned renovations and without regard to their empowerment in upscale plans such as comprehensive urban plans, have lost some of their qualities.
Many of these ancient and traditional neighborhoods have been at the core of cities' formation throughout their history, but today it seems we can see the decline of human dignity in neighborhoods, followed by social, economic, physical and other problems in them.
Since it is not possible to examine all neighborhoods in terms of the characteristics and components of Islamic city in general and human dignity in particular, an old neighborhood sample and a new neighborhood sample are examined.
This study seeks to answer the question, first, what are the criteria of human dignity in the Islamic city? And have the new neighborhoods succeeded in preserving human dignity at least as much as the old ones?
According to the subject and purpose of this study, this research is a developmental one and its research method is comparative. For this purpose, the method of study is based on the Quran, the words of the infallible and jurisprudential sources and the opinions of Muslim scholars as well as the works of non-Muslim scholars.
Information is also in the library and field method. In this research, the documentary method has been used to formulate the theoretical framework.
By referring to books, publications, and related sites, by gathering notes, retrieving relevant information and information.
In the main part of this research (case study) we used survey method. The data collection tool was a questionnaire. Using the materials and information gathered in the theoretical foundations section, the variables were identified and then a number of questions and questions were compiled to evaluate each of the variables that form the sum of the items and the questions that form the structure of the questionnaire.
The way of answering the questions and the questions was referring to the respondents in the questionnaire.
The results of the study show that the new Hakimiyah neighborhood, which has been modernized based on the contemporary construction pattern but has not led to any of the criteria of human dignity in this neighborhood, shows the criteria of human dignity as a feature. The desirable Islamic city in the old and traditional neighborhood of Iranian street has been realized more than the new and modern neighborhood of Hakimiyah.
