Household appliance supply chain decisions in Iran, due to the weakness of the native household appliance industry against overseas manufactured products, require efficient management and attention. Because of failing to modernize and upgrade the technology, this industry falls behind household industry leaders from all around the world, and consequently loses some of its domestic and foreign markets. In this way, some of the old brands disappeared, but given the importance of this industry, new brands were born and were able to produce products that today cover a large part of both of the domestic and foreign markets. In this regard, implementation of supply chain coordination models in the household appliance industry is very important in terms of economic and operational aspects compared to the other supply chains. The purpose of supply chain coordination models is to develop mechanisms to align the goals of independent supply chain members and to coordinate their decisions to increase the level of supply chain performance. This research considers a two-level supply chain of household appliances including one supplier and one retailer with a demand dependent on the level of sales effort and quality improvement. The purpose of this research is to determine the optimal policy of replenishment, sales effort and quality improvement through a buyback contract. The supply chain is examined in three decentralized, centralized and coordinated structures. The results of the buyback contract model showed that this contract was not able to coordinate the supply chain under such conditions. We then develop a modified model based on a cost-sharing contract where the members of the supply chain share the costs associated with sales effort, the quality improvement of the goods.
The models developed using MATLAB software are resolved and optimal order quantities, advertising levels and quality improvements are determined. Finally, the performance and applicability of the developed models are analyzed using several appropriate numerical examples, case studies and sensitivity analyses of key parameters.
