Iran holds third rank of the world flaring, based on The World Bank statistics. Also,National Balance of Hydrocarbon 1395 indicates that the daily potential capacity of gathering and non-burning is about 42.89 MMCMD associated gas. Accordingly, Sixth National Development article 48 (enacted by 1395) forces the state to control and restrain at least 90 percent of flare gas up to the end of the Sixth Program.
It seems that the subject of controlling flare gas is important due to different aspects such as environmental problems, the country participation in global warming, and most importantly economic issues. Therefore, one of the main priorities of large petroleum industries in the country focuses on gathering and controlling flaring gases. Providing executive definition of the flaring system, reasons and factors of sending gases to the flare, the research examines environmental requirements of reducing flare pollution and recycling methods of the flare gas like gas condensation, LPG production, or gas pressure increasing and re-inject them to the main line or refinery input feed and also power production from recycling gases. Finally, given the definition of the simulation process, Aspen Hysys software is introduced as the simulation software, then its brief instruction is presented to be familiar with refinery unit plans.
At the end, a simulation of refinery operation will be provided while one of the main towers is out of service and flare gas is recycled by aforementioned methods of Aspen Hysys software. Output results is economically and technically considered, simulation results show that based on 220 m3/h input feed in emergency condition, up to 8940 SCM/h flare gas is burned hourly (equal to mass exergy of 9430 MJ/D); however, re-using this amount of gas, according to simulation results, could produce valuable products like Liquified gas and LPG, 35.3 MW power production or gathering and pressure increasing flare gases to re-inject in to input lines or to inject oil wells. And finally, it could prevent releasing 14.5 Tons/H of CO2 into the environment.
