Nowadays, diversity in technologies leads to ever-increasing energy consumption all over the world. Limitations on energy accessibility, forces to precisely decide how to provide energy sources. Decision making on energy problems is closely related to sustainable development goals. This thesis is mainly on energy planning problem to plan for the required energy in a way that the environmental hazards are lowest and the social outcomes are desired. Social equity, equal opportunities for energy sources accessibility, balance in job opportunities are the social aspects modeled in this thesis. Moreover, society’s idea as “social acceptance” and its uncertainty is mathematically modeled.
On the other hand, a challenging concept in energy is to maintain and promote energy security in energy sources and energy transmission. In order to develop executive models for sustainable energy planning considering energy security aspects under uncertainty, this thesis covers the below aspects for energy security: reduction in energy dependency on import, energy storage, decentralization. Generally, three mathematical models developed to cover energy planning, energy sustainability, and energy security concepts. Suitable solution methods applied for the models. The results indicate managerial insights and executive road maps to power plants capacity expansions in a way that the expansion plan is toward sustainable development goals and energy security promotion. Furthermore, the results confirm that a slight increase in energy costs fulfills the energy strategies and guidelines for Iran.
