Today, with the globalization of business and the growth of multinationals, the focus on global supply chain networks has increased. Global supply chain network design is one of the most important strategic decisions in supply chain management. On the other hand the network design decisions have long-term, costly and time-consuming impacts, hence by taking into account the ever-changing global status the optimum design of supply chain network is of high importance.
A review of the literature in the field of global supply chain design shows that there has been little research on the issues of determining the type of insurance clauses, choosing the modes of transportation, and determining international carriage and delivery contracts. Accordingly, this study attempts to design a global supply chain by taking into account selection of the best international carriage and delivery contracts between production and distribution centres, determining the most appropriate type of insurance clauses for goods, selection of the best transportation modes, location of distribution centres, allocation of distribution centres to customers, optimum transfer pricing of products, inventory level of raw material and products, flow of row material and products among different layers of chain. Most of the global factors such as exchange rate, tax rate, import tariff and international transport insurance are taken into account in network design. Then, for this purpose, the problem is solved in two stages. In the first stage, the results of the above decisions, except the selection of the appropriate type of insurance for the goods, are specified, and in the second stage, the appropriate type of insurance is ranked and selected by using the data and results of the first stage and the criteria influencing the choice of type of insurance for each goods. The proposed nonlinear single-objective model is firstly linearized and then solved by using GAMS software and in second stage Secondly, using the results obtained, the type of appropriate insurance is determined based on the PROMETHEE method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods. Finally, to show the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed model to real-world conditions is investigated by a case study and in order to validate the model, after presenting the results, on the important parameters of the model, sensitivity analysis is performed to determine the effects of these changes on the results.
