One of the industrial wastewater that releases pollutants widely is wastewater from oil and gas refining. These effluents have a range of suspended and floating properties, as well as soluble and oils, greases, colloids, mercaptans, and other acidic and inorganic chemicals. If they enter the environment raw, they can cause serious and irreparable damage to humans, the environment, and other organisms. At first, different types of industrial effluents were studied and categorized, identifying the characteristics of each of them, and refining process of different industries. Then, considering the three types of wastewater containing detergent, milk and petroleum according to their analysis process, as well as their chemical oxygen demand, sequential batch reactor aerobic treatment was selected and a semi-industrial pilot with a discharge capacity of 180 liters / day. The Institute of Hydrodynamics and Marine Systems of Iran University of Science and Technology was designed and built. Then, during 45 days of 18-hour test every day at the research institute, the effluent containing 25 days milk was tested and then for 10 days the effluent containing milk, detergent and oil was tested and finally for 10 days. Petroleum containing detergent was tested in the system. According to the analysis performed by the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Chemistry of Iran University of Science & Technology for wastewater containing 98% chemical oxygen demand and wastewater containing detergent and milk 89% and effluent containing Oil and detergent reached 95%.
