There are many advantages and disadvantage in advancing of a new technology. During the past 50 years ago, technology in domain of the transportation has experienced much progress. After a while of introducing the new vehicles and its advantages, people have been encouraged to have their own cars. As a result of which, more and more people have bought private cars. The slow progress in building or renewing the old infrastructures the congestion problem in urban environment has appeared. The traffic congestion in intersections and on and off ramps in highways has made a huge problem for people. Exclusively, time, coast, and environmental problems such as polluting the air or releasing the harmful garbage in nature are the main challenges. To overcome the problems of the traffic congestion, researchers started to use the new technologies. Vehicular ad hoc Networks (VANET) is a crucial component in intelligent transportation system. Providing the ability of communicating with other vehicles without using a base station and low delay in transmitting the information are the benefits of this technology. Also, autonomous driving system is another vital component in controlling and reducing the negative implications of the cars in urban environment. In this work, we attempt to present a new model for managing the traffic congestion at highways on and off ramps by using the ad hoc network and autonomous driving system. In our model we present a mathematical model for connecting vehicles in these areas. Also, platooning have been used to increase the efficiency of the highway link. The most important contribution in our work is to reduce the traffic congestion in on ramp, while we do not abate the traffic flow in main link of highway. Finally, we evaluate our model by simulating it in SUMO simulator. The results show significant improvement for our model.
