Today, in most design projects, the user only uses space and does not contribute to the space production process, and in the end, many projects are not welcomed and fail due to non-compliance with the user's wishes and needs. Conventional design and planning often undermine consumers' skills and negate their involvement in decision-making, while not educating citizens on design or planning does not conflict with their ability to comment on solutions in the decision-making process.
The aim of this study is to achieve practical strategies for user participation in the process of planning and designing a home for themselves. In such a way that the lifestyle, values, desires, needs and different personality traits of individuals are considered with the active presence of the user in the process and the final product of the house is appropriate and specific to him. The main focus of the research is on examining and testing different ways and levels of people's participation in planning and designing the neighborhood unit and home for themselves.
This research has been done in two stages of descriptive-analytical and qualitative (experimental). In the first stage, by searching for sources and reviewing the literature and reviewing case studies of participatory projects, components of participatory architecture, categories, indicators, strategies and strategies to accurately define the project, formulate its steps and how to perform each step, was obtained. The second stage of the research is done in the field and by conducting interviews and Visual questionnaires, by classifying the statistical population as a family, in three stages: site plan, residential units and facade, participation using three methods (method 1, method 2, method 3) at different levels , done.
At the end of the work, by examining the process functionality of all three methods in relation to achieving the goals of the participation, it can be concluded that Method 2 provides a more complete and comprehensive process for user participation in the design of their home. But in fact, each of these three methods has requirements for better results. In fact, it is the user and his abilities that limit the use of different methods. Ability to express emotions and self-expression, talk about desires, the level of attention and attention to the environment, self-confidence, decision-making power, user's spatial understanding, user age, education and social status, his level of cooperation and patience, etc. There are factors that affect the success or failure of each of these methods. The designer can only get a better result from the process to some extent by using the right tools.
In fact, these three methods cannot be considered completely separate and distinct from each other. In fact, it can be said that using method 2 as the main process using appropriate tools in combination with methods 1 and 3 so that, the amount of use of each method and the level of user participation can change according to the user's conditions and abilities, we can to achieve a better result.
