In many countries, Railway systems plays an important role for commuters and cargo displacement. Although, trains have significantly less energy consumption compared to its counterparts, increasing the efficiency is still an open problem, in turn, leading to less air pollution and more energy conservation. Recent years we have witnessed an increasing trend for investment on trains speed optimization, mainly with the aim of lessen the energy consumption of public transportation. Optimal control is one of the methods to seek this objective. In this thesis, we utilized the idea of multi-phase optimal control for designing the train optimal speed profile. In detail, trains displacement will be split into different phases, then cost functions and dynamic equations will be written for each phase. Second step is devoted to resolving the problem utilizing pseudospectral method. The proposed method has been implemented on the data of Tehran-Garmsar real trip, seeking the purpose of lower energy consumption.
