Calculating the reliability and checking and evaluating the level of availability of the fleet, especially locomotives, can significantly contribute to advancing the goals of the rail transport industry. These goals include:immunization, improving the quality of services and achieving greater profitability. In this dissertation, the failures of Early series of GM locomotives (G12, G22W) of the railways of Islamic Republic of Iran are divided into 8 categories: mechanical, electric, bogei , electric mechanical, braking, accidents,braking mechanical , equipment, which the highest percentage of failures the category of locomotives for 7 consecutive months of research is related to the category of electrical and electric mechanical. Reliability calculation is based on Failure mode and effects analysis and fault tree analysis. Also, the failure rate and level of availability Early series of GM locomotives of all lines across the country have been examined based on the information and statistics obtained in these 7 months. In this project, according to the statistics of failures resulting from statistical software, the best failure distribution function, two-parameter Weibull function is approved. Finally, in order to improve the reliability and level of availability of early series of GM locomotives is given a set of recommendations to eliminate or minimize failures that have the greatest share in reducing reliability and, of course, the level of readiness of these diesels.
