In the civil engineering, it is not possible to design and construct different structures without considering resistant and shear behavior of construction area. Therefore, paying attention to the engineering and resistance characteristics of different types of soil in different regions and recognizing their behavioral differences has been of great importance.
One kind of soils that has been investigated less than the other similar kinds is carbonate sand. These soils are among of problematic soils in nature which researches indicate that the shear behavior of this type of sands is different in comparing with siliceous ones. Carbonate sand are made up of the remains of animals and marine plants and generally could be found in the hot torrid and tropical zone and also in the gas and oil fields.
The geotechnical behavior of carbonate sand is important in the marine structures. But as these soils also exist in the lands that have been under water once upon of time, in case of constructing in these areas or need of stabilize and improve them for proper loading for engineers, behaviors can be explored. One of the word’s famous areas that is avant-garde in introducing the carbonate sand and it’s engineering related problems, is Persian Gulf region.
In this study, the effect of cementation on the carbonate Bushehr’s sand has been investigated by adding different percentages of 100, 200, 400 and 600 KPa under consolidated undrained triaxial condition, by method of strain control.
In the civil engineering, it is not possible to design and construct different structures without considering resistance and shear behavior of construction area. One kind of soils that has been investigated less than the other similar kinds, is carbonate sand. It was observed that by adding the gypsum to sand specimen , the mixture strength is increased and the highest soil strength is occurred at mixing of 15 % of the gypsum. The increase in resistance after mixing of 20% is down trend Generally, the internal friction angle is reduced but the cohesion is increased.
